WYSIWYG is a programme for vizualization architectural and show lighting. It's name comes from words: What You See Is What You Get. This programme enables to design architectural and show lighting inside and outside. You can see the light in pre-vizualization. This programme provides typical drawing tools, and enables to draw objects in 3D. There is also a library of equipment: lighting devices with all accessories, constructions and typical elements of interior designing, which simplifies the designing process, and allows to explore the designs in a virtual environment. The programme also enables to generate photorealistic renderings created on the basis of stage designing and simulation how the system will work, including possibility of connecting any control console to a computer in order to simulate the show.
Easy to use and with advanced edition possibilities – are the main features of the programme. Usually software, such as CAD, requires from a user many time for learning each options of a programme. WYSIWYG programme provides its possibilities to everyone, not just engineers or technicians who draws projects. It's dedicated for artists who pay less attencion for technical details, but care for final effect. Some lessons with a specialist are enough for one to explore, how wonderful is the world of visualization.
Beside possibilities of creating projects, WYSIWYG programme provides also many helpful tools that can be used for making final documentation (a repport of used devices, addressing, etc.).
Undoubtedly, one of the qualities of WYSIWYG programme is constantly actualized library of lighting devices, accessories, constructions and objects for interior designing. Each year designer of this programme, CAST SOFTWARE, adds to the library over 100 new automatic devices, over 200 conventional fittings and thousands of other elements such as: accessories, gobos, construction elements and filters. When manufacturers of lighting devices modify them in some way, CAST SOFTWARE actualizes its library. It is made at least 4 times a year. Since CAST SOFTWARE starts testing the new automatic device on the market, passes about one week. During this time a library containing all possible parametres of the device is created, and it's twice checked if a simulation goes right. In a result of this procedure all devices are modelled as precisely as possible. It saves a lot of time during creating projects, which otherwise could be wasted while looking for information about actually used devices, not mentioning that one can be surprised because the simulation is not precise.
WYSIWYG programme is available in few versions that has different possibilities. That are:
- WYSIWYG report (2D graphics)
- WYSIWYG design (3D graphics)
- WYSIWYG perform (3D graphics and a possibility of connecting lighting console)
- WYSIWYG console edition
- WYSIWYG network (network version working on more than one to less than twenty computers)
Some of those versions are also available in educational versions, dedicated especially for students or educational institutions. The newest versions of the programme provide for users of some consoles (that allow working in Ethernet, ex. ETC AVAB Congo) a two-way exchange of data. Everything that is done on a computer (including addressing), thanks to WYSIWYG programme will be transmitted dynamic between a computer and a console, making work of Light Designer much faster. Beside professional users, i.e. Light Designers, Stage Designers and Light Products Managers, WYSIWYG programme is also used by 150 schools and universities all over the world. Learn and Educational versions are ideal tools for institutions, that are teaching future technicians and Light Artists. It's a best solution when schools are looking to minimize expenditures yet maximize student’s exposure to lighting equipment and technologies.
All registered users get technical help about how to operate a programme, and a possibility of constantly updated WYSIWYG version. Programme subscription for visualizing the illumination through WYSIWYG is the best solution for having a current possibility to use all its updated versions. CAST Software – manufacturer of the programme, not only enlarge WYSIWYG's possibilities and provides many improvements - but also actualizes the library of stage devices. Beside the group of programmers, the company employs a team of enthusiasts that still looks for the latest devices, than test and model them. Thanks to it WYSIWYG programme has always the most up-to-date library of equipment.
WYSIWYG is a standard on stage light market. Among its users are for example: Royal Opera House, BeiFang KunQu Opera Theatre and Canadian Opera House. The programme was also accepted in Poland. It is successfully used by companies that specialize in renting the devices and organizing shows, but also by TV and film studios. Below is a list of the best known users of WYSIWYG programme in Poland:
- Artur Szyman, TVP
- Andrzej Czyranowski, TVP
- Zbigniew Feliksiak, TVP
- Paweł Paj±k "Spider"
- Piotr Basek, TSE
- Andrzej Groda
- Łukasz Kubiak, TSE
- Marcin Michna, Transcolor
- Piotr Kozioł, TVN
Additionally, the programme was now implemented to the programme on Faculty of Mechatronics on Warsaw University of Technology, for students specialized in Multimedia Techniques.
We encourage you to learn more about programme possibilities. Every enthusiast of light technics can use a free DEMO version!!! You are welcome to come for a presentation of the programme in Prolight Sp. z o.o., that's its authorised distributor.
Pictures come from projects of the best Polish Light Designers. More renders you can find in "Visualisation" section on this web page. You are welcome to send us your lighting designs made by WYSIWYG radi@prolight.com.pl
- we will place them on our web page.
